By panning hard left, I can isolate the lead guitar, making it disappear from the mix (simply panning hard right doesn't achieve the same effect because the backing track remains audible). As Riffstation acknowledges, muting the guitar isn't always effective, but even with this limitation, the software still seems to remove any lingering ghost echoes of the backing track, which is interesting. This is because most of the track is panned dead centre, so when I cut the centre channel, the lead guitar becomes more prominent on its own. To further verify these findings, I used my Transcribe software and discovered that I can bring out the guitar slightly more clearly than Riffstation using the out-of-phase setting. However, it's still not possible to completely isolate one guitar from another, except in rare cases like "Hey Joe" where the guitar is panned hard right. There are techniques for manipulating stereo tracks to make a specific instrument more or less prominent, or even remove it entirely if it's panned centre. However, in typical stereo mixes, instruments often share parts of their sound in both the stereo spread and EQ spectrum, making complete isolation challenging. It's worth noting that there are some dubious claims on the Riffstation website as well.
